There are two major types of Metabolic (biochemical) reactions: “Anabolic” and “Catabolic”, Catabolic are associated with the release of energy and energy production; “Catabolic” reactions are the breakdown of organic molecules for energy. “Anabolic” reactions are associated with growth. Catabolic breaks down sugars and fat for energy; It also helps to maintain body weight. We must break down molecules in our body as fast as we make them or we will gain weight. When we eat less this slows down the “Anabolic” reaction. Exercise; this speeds up the breakdowns of fats and carbs for energy and speeds up the “Catabolic” reactions.
